Update: HB 2 and the Teacher Incentive Allotment
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released additional details of House Bill (HB) 2 passed during the 89th Texas Legislature as it relates to the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA).
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, HB 2 establishes a new level of designation — Acknowledged — that will significantly increase the number of designated teachers in Texas. TEA updated the performance standards for each designation level based on performance during the 2025-2026 school year.
HB 2 also provides for increased allotments under the revised TIA funding formula that will take effect in the 2026-2027 school year. Changes to the formula include increased multiplier amounts for high needs and rural factor, funding for new designations, and increased base allotments and maximum amounts.
TEA shares additional TIA-related information regarding:
- Expanded technical support through Education Service Centers (ESCs)
- Enhanced TIA application process
- Designations for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs)
