Join us for the 30th Annual School Health and Related Services (SHARS) 2024 Conference May 9-10. Come together with fellow professionals and industry experts to delve into compelling discussions on current trends, acquire best practices, and stay informed about the latest developments in the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) program. This virtual celebration is open to all eligible Texas school districts and education service centers, providing a valuable opportunity to:

1:10–1:40 p.m. Charting the Course: Effective Personal Care Documentation, with Karlyn Keller

  • All aboard for a swift sail through the essentials of SHARS documentation! We'll drop anchor on the most effective strategies for documenting personal care, teaching you how to steer clear of the whirlpools of non-compliance and cruise towards smoother administrative seas.

1:40–2:05 p.m. Journeying Forward: Navigating Participant Lists and RMTS Training, with Tricia Gray

  • Embark on a journey of discovery as we navigate the twists and turns of managing participant lists and RMTS training in the educational landscape. Join us as we review the changes, share insights, and explore a fresh perspective on participant lists and RMTS training, equipping you with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate smoothly into the 2024-2025 school year. Get ready to hit the road with confidence and renewed vigor!

2:15–2:45 p.m. Navigating the Crossroads: Medical vs. Educational Services in IEPs, with Karlyn Keller

  • At the crossroads of medical and educational paths, which trail do you take? This session will serve as your compass, helping you distinguish and document the right route in IEPs to maximize your district's SHARS journey. Avoid detours and stay on track to funding success with expert guidance!

2:45–3:10 p.m. Navigating Roadblocks with Medicaid Enrollment for Referring Providers, with Laurie Woodel

  • Have your referring providers hit any potholes when enrolling for Medicaid?  Has the road to updating licensure information been a little bumpy?  This session will ease that rocky road and make that experience a smooth journey.

3:10–3:35 p.m. Packing Success: Streamlining Your Operating Procedures, with Stacie Dull

  • Unlock the secrets of efficient operating procedures with this training session. Just as packing smartly ensures a smooth journey, optimizing your procedures sets the path for organizational success. Join us as we explore how to neatly organize, prioritize, and streamline your operations, ensuring you're packed and ready for every challenge that comes your way!

3:35–3:55 p.m. Embarking on the MAC Journey: Charting Your Submission Strategy, with Dario Avila

  • Set sail on the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process. This session will navigate the essentials for preparing your MAC submission and highlight considerations for districts not yet participating. Gear up to chart a successful course and anchor your strategies in knowledge!

9:10-10:15 a.m. SHARS Annual Update from the Texas Education Agency, with Angela Foote

  • This is an opportunity to avoid common SHARS noncompliance findings. This year has been filled with reviews and findings. The agreement between TEA and HHSC gives TEA the responsibility to provide training to SHARS providers.  Considering that responsibility, this presentation will share common findings, suggest options for compliance, and answer your SHARS questions.

10:15-11:25 a.m. Exploring New Horizons: A National Perspective from NAME (Nation Alliance for Medicaid in Education), with Jenny Millward

  • Medicaid, the third largest funding stream for schools, can create bridges of opportunity for schools. Recently, Medicaid has gone through a significant transformation with the opening of the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and the release of the updated guidance, known as the SUPER GUIDE. This is the first time the complete guidance has been updated since the program was created. Learn more about what these changes mean for states and school districts.

11:25-11:55 p.m. Charting New Territories in SHARS: Anticipating the Horizon, with Karlyn Keller

  • Embark on a voyage to chart what might be on the horizon for SHARS. This session aims to equip you with a telescope to gaze into the future, hypothesizing about upcoming changes and how they could impact your district. Though the future isn’t set in stone, we’ll navigate the stars and predict the tides, preparing you to sail smoothly through tomorrow’s waters.
