TEA Updates: HB 2 Implementation

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released several To the Administrator Addressed Correspondence updates that are applicable to school district human resources.

House Bill 2 Implementation: Teacher Certification Incentive

The Teacher Certification Incentive provides districts with a one-time, $1,000 payment for each eligible classroom teacher who completes all required preparation components and is issued a standard certificate.

House Bill 2 Implementation: CTE Certification Reimbursement to Districts

HB 2 extends TEA’s Career and Technical Education certification reimbursement authority to include costs paid by districts for educators who are issued a standard certificate on or after September 1, 2025, in one of 10 specified CTE areas.

New TSDS Core Collection: Teacher Vacancy Collection

This update serves as advance notice to school systems of implementation of a new Texas Student Data System (TSDS) core collection: Teacher Vacancy Collection.

Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, school systems will report information on vacant teaching positions occurring between September 1 and August 31 of each school year. Details on the required data, key dates, and available training and support can be found on TEA’s webpage New TSDS Core Collection: Teacher Vacancy Collection.
