TASB Names 80 Journalists to 2025 Media Honor Roll for Public Education Coverage

Austin— The Texas Association of School Boards is pleased to announce the selection of 80 journalists for the 2025 TASB Media Honor Roll. This program recognizes media representatives statewide for fair and balanced reporting of news about public schools. Reporters from newspapers, radio and television stations, and digital publications across the state were named by their local school districts for the distinction.

The district selection criteria included the media representative’s efforts to build relationships with the superintendent, board president, and district leadership. Also considered was the reporter’s approach to fairness, accuracy, and balance.

“We applaud our districts for recognizing media in our local Texas communities,” said TASB Executive Director Dan Troxell. “Journalists play a vital role in our daily lives, bringing us closer to the stories that matter. By showcasing positive developments in public education, journalists help build community pride and encourage support of their local schools, which helps strengthen academic outcomes for students.”

TASB President Rolinda Schmidt, a Kerrville ISD board member, said the TASB Media Honor Roll program serves to showcase journalists who consistently attend school board meetings, school district activities and highlight newsworthy events, initiatives and achievements.

“This award highlights the contributions of journalists in our local communities and across Texas,” Schmidt said. “Recognizing their hard work is essential to ensuring that the stories of our public schools are shared and heard. In my Kerrville community, our local newspapers are a vital source for school district information, campus happenings, and student successes.”
