How Tennessee School District is Improving Teacher Retention
As schools focus more and more on attacking problems with teacher retention, one district in Tennessee is reporting positive results from its efforts to focus on employee wellness.
Metro Nashville Public Schools (MPNS) opened an employee wellness center this school year and are immediately seeing dividends from its investment. The center offers a variety of services and perks for district employees, including:
- Free gym
- Fitness classes
- Personal trainers
- Health clinic
- Pharmacy
- Physical therapy
- Psychological counseling
MPNS also provides onsite medical clinics and found teachers who use these clinics for their primary care are more likely to stay on with the district.
Other benefits of onsite clinics, as reported in a recent study by the RAND Corporation, a research organization focused on public policy, is lower health care costs and even reduce teacher absences.
