Policy Alert: GPA Calculation Rule Change

In 2025, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1191, which requires the Commissioner of Education to create a statewide standard method for calculating high school grade point averages (GPAs). Previously, your district had broad discretion to determine weighting systems and class-rank calculations through your policy EIC(LOCAL). TEA has now adopted a new rule at 19 TAC 74.3001 titled Computation of High School Grade Point Average.
