The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) recently announced applications are open for the School-Based Mental Health (SBMH) and the Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration (MHSP) grant competitions.

The SBMH program provides competitive grants to high-need local education agencies (LEAs) to hire and increase the number of credentialed school-based mental health service providers providing mental health services to students. More information and the application can be found on the Federal Register — Applications for New Awards; School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program. Applications are due on April 30, 2024.

The MHSP grants support LEAs in partnership with institutions of higher education in training school-based mental health services providers. This competition also includes priorities to increase the number of mental health professionals from diverse backgrounds and promote inclusive practices. More information and the application can be found on the Federal Register - Applications for New Awards; Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program. Applications are due on May 15, 2024.
