Updates to Sexual Health Education: What Trustees Need to Know

On Demand

In 2020, the State Board of Education adopted updated Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards that guide K-12 sexual health education curriculum. The new TEKS standards go into effect in the 2022-23 school year. However, districts need to start preparing for the changes now. Additionally, new laws passed in the 87th legislative session made major changes to School Health Advisory Councils and the sex education curriculum adoption process. There are more steps and less time to adopt curriculum. Through this course, trustees will learn about the changes to the TEKS standards and sex education adoption process, preparing them for decisions that they will soon need to make.

This course was first presented as a webinar on October 7, 2021.
