Preventing Abuse and Reporting Misconduct Courses

What They Are

TASB, in collaboration with Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas (CACTX), is offering this free online training for the 2026-27 school year. These courses are designed to help districts support safe school environments and align with recent updates to state law related to child abuse, neglect, maltreatment, and educator misconduct.

The courses have been developed through a collaboration that draws on TASB’s legal, policy, and HR expertise and CACTX’s expertise in the multidisciplinary response to crimes against children and preventing child sexual abuse.

What They Cover

The courses cover the following topics as relevant by role:

• Creating a culture of safety and accountability
• Recognizing, responding to, and reporting child abuse
• Standards of conduct
• Reporting misconduct to TEA/SBEC
• Hiring best practices, including background checks

Who They Are For

There are specific courses for the following audiences

• Trustees*
• Superintendents
• HR Staff and administrators
• General district staff**

*The trustee course is only available in the TASB Online Learning Center.

**There’s a course for new hires and then a staff refresher course that should be taken annually as part of the pre-service training requirements.

How To Get the Courses

Upload to Your District’s LMS

If your district has its own LMS, you can download the courses and upload them to your LMS. Simply fill out a quick form to get the download links. Please note that the Trustee course is only available in the TASB Online Learning Center.

Take the Courses In TASB’s Online Learning Center

Members

Members with TASB accounts should log into the Online Learning Center by clicking Member Login, and then entering their TASB login, or log in here. This is where all board members should take the trustee version of the course.

Once you’re logged in search for the specific course. Courses available using a member account are:

Nonmembers

Nonmembers (and users from member districts who do not have a TASB account) should select Nonmember on the Online Learning Center home page to create a nonmember account using an email address or use an existing account to log in.

Once you’re logged in search for the specific course. Courses available using a Nonmember account are:
