Education Jobs Among Fastest-Growing Careers in Texas

April 27, 2018 • Zach DiSchiano

A report by Texas Career Check found jobs in the education industry will be plentiful over the next several years.

The site ranked the top-25 occupations making above the Texas median wage of $35,484 by the highest projected number of growth-based job openings through 2024.

Notable careers on the statewide list include:

  • No. 4 elementary school teachers with 6,480 projected annual openings
  • No. 7 secondary school teachers
  • No. 15 middle school teachers

The list can be edited to sort in-demand careers by region, as well. For example, in the Permian Basin, elementary and secondary school teachers are in high demand, ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. The area also projects a significant number of openings for kindergarten teachers over the next few years.

In the Austin area, secondary (No. 17) and middle (NR) school teachers are less scarce than in other parts of the state. Meanwhile, in Tarrant County, preschool teachers make the list at No. 19 with 1,745 projected openings. In deep East Texas, there’s a projected need of approximately 1,275 education administrators in both elementary and secondary schools.
