Roughly 1.9 million students attend public school in the 30 counties listed in Gov. Greg Abbott’s disaster proclamation after Hurricane Harvey.
More than 10,000 students were forced to enroll in a different school district because of the storm and more than 34,000 became homeless. While all public schools in disaster counties have reopened, many students never returned to their home district.
An article yesterday explored the ongoing effects Harvey had on both students and districts.
