Public Comment Period Open for Form I-9 Proposed Rule

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is welcoming public comments on a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking related to the examination of Form I-9 documents.

The proposed rule would create a framework under which the Secretary of Homeland Security could authorize optional alternatives to the current requirement that employers (or authorized representatives) physically examine documentation presented by individuals seeking to establish identity and employment authorization for the purposes of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.

Public comment may be submitted via the Federal Register website. This 60-day comment period will be open through October 17.
