District coordinators can rely on various HR Services resources for help understanding leave benefits and managing the leave process.
Federal, state, and local rules and regulations result in school districts having to manage a minimum of 13 types of leave. Just when you think you have clear understanding of your district’s benefits , a unique and challenging situation arises.
HR Services members have the advantage of being able to address these challenges through quality training, easy-to-access written resources and tools, recorded webinars, and phone consulting.
HR Services provides in-district, regional, and virtual training options. Our 6-hour leave workshops, Managing State and Federal Leave and Get a Grip on the FMLA, are held annually in June. Access to registration is available via the HR Services Training Calendar.
A full list of training topics covered in these workshops is available on our Training Descriptions webpage. Regional training is done through partnerships with education service centers. The training offered in your region is chosen by your ESC.
Member districts can also arrange on-site or virtual training. Training can be customized to meet the unique needs of your district. Participation can be limited to your staff or serve as a host district by inviting other districts to participate and share the cost of consulting fees.
Written resources include HRX articles, the HR Library, and the 2022 fifth edition of The Administrators Guide to Managing Leaves and Absences, available for purchase online in the TASB Store.
HR Services receives a large volume of calls each month, and approximately one-third are related to leave. These calls help us identify topics and questions of interest to address in the HRX, resulting in a wide selection of leave-related articles. Use the search feature to find specific content.
The HR Library Leaves section (member login required) is organized into topics to help members easily access forms, explanations of federal and state requirements, and suggested methods for administering leave. Also included is the Family and Medical Leave Tracker that can be used to create a district FMLA database.
Access to the HR Library can be granted to any staff in member districts. The primary program contact can initiate the process by emailing the name, title, and email of the person to be added to firstname.lastname@example.org.
