District leaders considering school calendar revisions should first consider the effect on teacher contracts and pay and review available resources.
Some districts might be considering adding instructional days to this year’s calendar or adding optional summer programs to provide more time for instruction due to concerns about students’ learning loss during the pandemic. Other districts may be thinking about revising next year’s calendar to start earlier, implementing an intersessional calendar, or creating a full-year design.
