Teacher Vacancy Collection
School systems should begin preparing for the new Teacher Vacancy Collection which takes effect with the 2026-2027 school year.
House Bill 2 of the 89th Legislature added Texas Education Code (TEC) § 21.468, requiring the collection of teacher vacancy data to support statewide teacher recruitment and retention efforts. Data will be collected annually through the Texas Student Data System (TSDS). The first reporting period will cover September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027, and the initial submission will be due September 23, 2027.

Additional technical guidance, including data standards and validation rules, is available in the Texas Education Data Standards (TEDS). Districts are encouraged to work with their regional Education Service Center (ESC), which can provide assistance on preparing for this new TSDS core collection.
