Teacher Highlights: District Personnel Salary Survey

Results from the 2024-2025 TASB District Personnel Survey are now available in TASB HRDataSource™ (member login required).

Teacher compensation highlights from statewide data are available for download on the Salary Survey Highlights webpage and include average starting pay and hiring schedules, median average salaries, shortage-area stipends, degree and leadership stipends, and substitute pay rates.

Findings

Of 1,018 Texas public school districts, 579 participated in the survey, representing 57 percent of districts in Texas. The survey responses represent approximately 80 percent (301,138) of the estimated total population of teachers (375,004) in Texas public schools.  For districts with 3,000 or more students, participation was 87 percent.

Key teacher findings include:

  • The median starting teacher salary is $48,500, up 2.3 percent from last year.
  • The median teacher salary is $56,300, up 1.3 percent from last year.
  • Of responding districts, 90 percent pay teacher stipends, the most common being the high-needs special education stipend (reported by 73 percent of responding districts).

Other notes on the District Personnel Salary Survey:

  • The median reported pay increases for the 2024-2025 school year are as follows:
    • 2 percent increase for teachers
    • 2.65 percent increase for administrative/professional staff
    • 3 percent increase for clerical/paraprofessional and auxiliary staff
  • Of responding districts, 17 percent did not give a pay increase for the 2024-2025 school year, while 4 percent reported a one-time payment.
  • Two new benchmarks were included this year:
    • Director of Safety
    • Security Guard (Armed)
  • Two benchmarks were expanded to include middle school level:
    • MS Custodial Lead
    • MS Child Nutrition Manager
