After 47 years in education, Dr. Lolly Guerra, executive director of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA), is set to retire on August 31, 2022.

Dr. Guerra served on the Central TASPA board prior to joining TASPA as the program director in March 2016. By August 2017 she secured the role of executive director. She brought 41 years of experience with her to TASPA, 40 of which were spent with San Marcos CISD in a variety of roles including elementary bilingual teacher, bilingual program coordinator, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent for human resources.

TASPA is a professional association designed to provide tools, strategies, and support to Texas public school human resources administrators and support staff. In this capacity, Dr. Guerra has had the opportunity to work with many of our readers over the last six years. Following are some thoughts from those who had the privilege of working with her.

Al Rodriguez, Assistant Superintendent of Human Capital and Public Information at Elgin ISD and President-Elect of TASPA, has this to say:

"Dr. Guerra is without a doubt one of the finest, most competent, driven, and passionate educators I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with over the years. Her standards of leadership, excellence, and service have left an indelible mark on TASPA in the most positive of ways. I know I speak for everyone when I say she will be missed."

Dr. Tamey Williams-Hill, Office of Equity Project Director at Austin ISD and TASPA District III Representative, shares:

"She [Dr. Guerra] truly cares about and is dedicated to the organization so that we, as HR professionals, can find ways to best support our schools and districts. She always answers the phone. She always finds answers to our questions. Dr. Guerra is truly passionate about human resources and always strives to never let us down."

Amy Campbell, director of TASB HR Services, has valued the time working with Dr. Guerra:

"I believe I speak for all of HR Services when I say we truly appreciate the years of working with Lolly and TASPA to support HR staff across the state. HR is not always glamorous, but Lolly recognized the importance of doing it right and threw herself into her role of providing guidance to district human resources professionals."

Dr. Guerra’s peers note the work she has done to elevate TASPA and the systems she’s put in place to ensure future success. She has certainly earned a relaxing retirement.

From all of us at TASB HR Services, we wish Dr. Lolly Guerra the very best on her next adventure!
