'TASB Talks’ at txEDCON: TASA Leaders See a Bright Future for Texas Public Education
Texas public schools continue to face significant challenges, but two district leaders say they remain optimistic about the future of public education and the people working to move it forward.
Chris Moran, superintendent of San Angelo ISD and TASA’s immediate past president, and Roosevelt Nivens, TASA’s current president and Lamar CISD superintendent, recently shared their perspectives on leadership, what they’ve learned being part of TASA, and why they think public education in Texas will continue to thrive.
"It's because of the people," Nivens said. "We have some challenges coming ... but those aren't stopping our educators. We always find ways to jump over the hurdle because we have to take care of young people."
Moran said it's all about believing in the charge educators are given and trusting the process.
"We all come from different backgrounds, and we all have our different beliefs, but I believe strongly that God created everybody in his image. Every one of these kids that come through our doors, they are a creation that has value," Moran said.
