TASB Launches Toolkit To Help Trustees Share Their District’s Stories and Build Community Support

Every district has a story worth telling — and trustees are in a unique position to tell it. That’s the idea behind TASB’s latest publication, A Toolkit to Champion Public Education: How to Share Your District’s Story and Build Community Support, a resource designed to help school board members share the success stories and everyday impact of public education in Texas.

“The toolkit offers simple, grassroots strategies to spotlight student success, strong programs, dedicated educators, and the many opportunities Texas public schools provide.,” said TASB Board President Tony Hopkins. “It’s designed to be customizable and easy to use — whether trustees are talking with parents, connecting with community members, or sharing good news online or in person.”

Who It's For

Designed for both new and experienced school board members, the publication offers practical ideas, guided activities, and real-world examples to help board members shape and share their district’s story in authentic, grassroots ways. From community conversations and campus visits to social media and local partnerships, it is intended to help trustees showcase what makes their schools special and build stronger understanding and support in their communities.

What It Does

Part of TASB’s broader Our Future is Public campaign, this new publication is designed to help members communicate why public schools continue to offer Texas families the best choice in an increasingly competitive educational landscape.

“Texas public schools offer families the broadest range of opportunities for students to learn, grow, and prepare for what comes next,” said TASB Executive Director Dan Troxell. “From academics and arts to career pathways, extracurriculars, and strong community connections, public schools continue to deliver opportunities that can’t be found elsewhere. This publication helps trustees bring that message to life in their own communities.”

Throughout the publication, trustees will find actionable suggestions they can tailor to their own districts and communities. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, this toolkit is designed to provide ideas and inspiration trustees can use in ways that reflect the priorities and needs of their own communities.

At its core, A Toolkit to Champion Public Education: How to Share Your District’s Story and Build Community Support highlights TASB’s ongoing commitment to equipping members with practical resources to protect, celebrate, and champion Texas public schools — now and for the future.
