Enhanced Local Legislative Priorities Tool Gives Members More Data
TASB members now have access to enhancements to the Local Legislative Priorities Tool, giving trustees and school leaders new ways to explore, sort, and compare advocacy priorities submitted by participating districts. The update is designed to make the member-facing resource more useful as school boards prepare for the 90th Legislative Session, which opens in January 2027.
Members can now sort local legislative priorities by nearly 20 TASB-defined categories, including special education, teacher recruitment and retention, and school funding. They will also be able to view participating district priority details using additional tabs, located at the bottom of the map. The enhancements also make it easier to identify funding-related priorities and allow users to view participating districts’ submissions more seamlessly within the tool.
The goal of the upgrade is to give members greater visibility into the issues other districts are elevating in their communities and to help school leaders identify areas of shared concern. The tool is intended to spark collaboration and strengthen local advocacy efforts ahead of the next legislative session.
“One of the most valuable aspects of this tool is the way it helps school leaders see where their priorities intersect with those of other districts across Texas,” said TASB President Tony Hopkins. “When trustees have a clearer picture of the priorities being raised across the state, they are better positioned to learn from one another, strengthen their local advocacy, and speak with greater clarity about what their students and schools need.”
By establishing local legislative priorities, school boards can create a framework for conversations with lawmakers and their communities about the issues that matter most to their students and schools. The tool also supports TASB’s broader advocacy work by helping members look beyond their own districts and better understand how local concerns connect to statewide conversations.
TASB continues to encourage districts to adopt local legislative priorities and share them through the tool. Staff also will continue offering training at TASB events and making advocacy resources available to support districts in developing their priorities.
Trustees and superintendents can access the tool by logging in to tasb.org, navigating to the Advocacy section of the member dashboard, and clicking Local Legislative Priorities.
