TEA Releases Required Parental Rights Training for Trustees

GR Updates Agency News

The Texas Education Agency has posted required parental rights training for trustees that was mandated by SB 204 passed during the 89th legislative session.

The bill tasked the State Board of Education with development of training on the rights of a parent regarding the education of their children and the creation, with assistance from the agency, of curriculum and materials for the training.

The training course, which the SBOE elected to make five hours in length, is only available through the TEA Learn website.

All trustees who took their oath of office prior to Jan. 1, 2026, must complete the training by Sept. 1, 2026. The law required the training to be created by April 1, 2026, and there has been no indication that trustees will have additional time to comply with the new requirement given the delay in the course’s availability.
