Watkins Reelected to State Association Board

(Austin) — Mildred Watkins of La Vega ISD has been reelected to a three-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 12. The election was held during the Association’s 2021 Delegate Assembly on September 25 in Dallas.
Watkins has served on the La Vega ISD Board for 25 years. She is currently the board’s president and has previously served as secretary, assistant secretary, vice-president, and president.
In May 2020, Watkins retired from her career as an educator. Her last posting was as principal of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, where she worked from 2006–20. During her career, she was a teacher and principal for Waco ISD and a teacher for Teague ISD.
She has bachelor of science and bachelor of arts degrees from Paul Quinn College, a master of education from Prairie View A&M University, and a special education certification from Baylor University. She is a member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, AKA Sorority, and the Union Baptist District Association Usher Board.
TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
