Phillips Reelected to State Association Board

(Austin) — Nicholas Phillips of Nederland ISD has been reelected to a three-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 5. The election was held during the Association’s 2021 Delegate Assembly on September 25 in Dallas.

Phillips is the president of the Nederland ISD Board of Trustees. He has served on the board for more than 11 years and held several leadership positions. In addition, he is a Leadership TASB graduate (Class of 2015) and Master Trustee. 

Phillips is the principal at West Brook High School in Beaumont ISD. He previously served the district as principal and associate principal at Marshall Middle School. Before moving into administrative roles, he spent seven years teaching World Geography and US History in Beaumont ISD and Port Arthur ISD. He is the 2021–22 Region 5 Outstanding High School Principal of the Year and was the Region 5 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year in 2020–21.

He earned bachelor and master degrees from Lamar University. He is a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of Texas Professional Educators, and Nederland Masonic Lodge.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
