Champagne Elected to State Association Board

(Austin)—The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors has elected Dawn Champagne of Katy ISD to an interim position on the TASB Board, representing TASB Region 4, Position E. 

Champagne joined the Katy ISD Board of Trustees in 2018. She has been an active volunteer in the district and community since moving to Katy in 2001.

She has held many leadership positions at her children’s schools. Most recently, she was president of the PTO and vice-president of Project Grad 2018 at Taylor High School. She has served on campus and bond advisory teams and the Katy Council of PTAs. In 2017, she served on the district’s bond committee. She is a KEYS mentor, a position she has held since 2015. She was named Volunteer of the Year at McMeans Jr. High for 2015–16 and at Taylor High School for 2017–18.

Champagne has been a Boy Scout leader and is currently a Girl Scout leader. She serves on the Azalea Chapter Board of the National Charity League and has held many leadership positions at her church, St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. 

She holds two degrees from the University of Houston: a bachelor of science in consumer science and marketing and a masters of administration. Prior to moving to Katy, she worked for 13 years as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration. Recently, she worked as a GT test proctor for Katy ISD.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
