(Austin)—The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected Cindy Spanel of Highland Park ISD-Potter County to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 16.

Spanel has been on the Highland Park ISD-Potter County Board since 2004, serving as secretary for four years and currently as vice-president. 

A 2010 graduate of Leadership TASB, she also is a member and officer of the Potter/Randall County Appraisal Board and Panhandle Area Association of School Boards. In addition, she served as a board member and secretary of the Amarillo Highland Park Education Foundation.

Currently semiretired, Spanel is a veteran of the US Navy. She served 1974–77, with an honorable discharge, disabled veteran. She graduated from Amarillo College with an associate’s degree in applied science-business administration.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve public school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
