Freeman Reelected to State Association Board

(Austin)—The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected Karen Freeman of Northside ISD-Bexar County to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 20, Position B.

Freeman was elected to the Northside ISD (NISD) Board of Trustees in 2005 and was reelected for her fourth term in May 2017. She chairs the Policy and Intergovernmental Relations Committee and is a member of the Academics, Building, Finance, and Technology committees.

Prior to board service, Freeman served on the district’s School Advisory Teams, the first NISD School Boundary Advisory Committee, NISD Strategic Plan committees, three NISD Bond committees, and the NISD Citizens’ Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, Freeman has held numerous PTA and Booster Organization positions in NISD schools and is an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA.

A Leadership TASB graduate, she is a member of the Bexar County School Boards Coalition and the National School Boards Association’s Federal Relations Network. Freeman also serves on the board of directors of the Helotes Area Chamber of Commerce.  Freeman earned a bachelor of science degree in clinical laboratory medical technology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and is currently the office manager in her husband’s medical practice.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local public school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million students.
