Executive Search Services for School Districts

TASB Executive Search Services offers support and guidance as your district seeks to find highly qualified candidates to fill administrative leadership roles.

Texas Association of School Board (TASB) Executive Search Services (ESS) has been building successful leadership teams in Texas school districts for more than 30 years. We know the education landscape and are dedicated to supporting districts as they search for exceptional superintendents with a strong commitment to excellence for your students, district staff, and community.

TASB ESS works with school boards, school districts, and applicants to make sure all parties involved in the superintendent search are taken care of from start to finish, resulting in successful schools with strong leadership.

Visit our LinkedIn page to stay up to date on the latest superintendent searches.

ESS can help you find the most qualified leaders to fill the following roles:

  • Superintendent
  • Associate superintendent
  • Deputy or assistant superintendent

Searches Tailored to Your Needs

ESS will customize the search to best fit your district's priorities. We can do as much or as little legwork as you would like, depending upon your district’s needs. Whether you are just looking to access our online application database to complete searches, or if you require our support through every step of the process, we can customize a plan specifically for your district that will save you time and money.

Post Your District's Vacancy

Prefer to handle the search on your own? ESS offers a free posting service to help TASB Member districts advertise superintendent and key administrator job openings. To post a vacancy, you must have an Active TASB account. The posting form is available from your Member Dashboard. Your ad will be reviewed by ESS and, if accepted, posted to on our External Executive Vacancies page

It is important to check your district policies and follow them as closely as possible, or you leave the board and district vulnerable to action from an unsatisfied candidate. District policies can include, but are not limited to:

  • DDA(Legal) Equal Employment Opportunity
  • DBA(Legal) Credentials and Certification
  • DC(Legal) Employment Practices
  • Federal Employment Regulations

Check TASB Legal Services School Law eSource for help with this.

The foundation of a successful search includes:

  1. A planning session to establish priorities and go over the process
  2. The creation of a profile (qualifications and characteristics) for the new superintendent
  3. Advertisement and recruitment
  4. Interviews
  5. Negotiations
  6. Possible site visit to candidate’s previous district
  7. Name and hire new candidate
  8. Transition planning

There are a lot of moving pieces in the search for your next leader, so let us guide you through the process.
