TEA Releases Mentor Program Allotment Details

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will begin accepting applications for the Mentor Program Allotment (MPA) on April 20, 2020.

A component of House Bill 3, the MPA is an optional program that provides Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with funds to build or sustain beginning teacher mentor programs. Funds may be used on mentor stipends, scheduled release time for mentoring activities, and mentor training. If interest and eligibility exceed the state funding amount of 3 million dollars, priority will be determined using a point system with points assigned based on LEA size, rural status, and percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

The application window is April 20, 2020 through June 8, 2020. TEA will notify LEAs of MPA application approval in early July, and the funding will begin in September for the 2020–2021 school year.

For more information on the topic, visit the TEA website.
