Personnel Issues During a School Closure

TASB Legal answers questions regarding the legal principles relating to employee absences during an epidemic or school closing.

Many questions arise when schools are closed due to contagious illness, hurricanes, or other disasters. TASB Legal has updated their FAQ regarding the topic on TASB School Law eSource.  Questions answered include:

  • Whether a district is required to pay employees who do not work while a district is closed
  • Whether a district can pay a premium to employees who are required to work while a district is closed
  • Whether contract employees can work beyond their original end date without additional compensation

For answers to these questions and more, check out the full article Personnel Issues During Epidemics and School Closings. For additional resources, including community college guidance, visit the TASB Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resources page.
