Webinar Offers School Board Members Access to Advocacy Tools
With the launch of TASB’s Toolkit for Community Advocacy, and its related online resources, the Association is offering an insightful webinar to members so they can learn more about how to build an engaged school community that is driven to support public education.
Registration is now open for the Community Advocacy: The Tools You Need to Amplify Community Support for Public Schools webinar, being held Jan. 13, 2025, from noon-1 p.m.
“We’ve received some wonderful feedback about our advocacy toolkit from board members and districts alike, and we are excited to share this webinar, which offers critical tools and resources that school boards can use right now to build a culture of advocacy in their districts,” said Dan Troxell, TASB executive director. “We hope our members feel empowered so they can build stronger, more engaged school communities that are ready to champion public education.”
The webinar will dive into the seven steps trustees and board members can use to support advocacy in their communities. Since every district is different and may have varying levels of advocacy experience, the steps offered can be followed in any order that benefits a district.
The advocacy toolkit was developed with the understanding that all school boards can have a positive influence on public education policies at the state level through grassroots advocacy. The webinar should serve as a source of inspiration for board members as they prepare for the upcoming legislative session, said Rolinda Schmidt, TASB President and Kerrville ISD board member.
“Advocacy is such an important part of board service, but it can feel daunting, and every district has different needs,” Schmidt said. “This webinar is a great introduction for our members to learn more and begin planning their advocacy journey.”
Each member school board received eight copies of the toolkit, and for those boards and members who would like a better understanding of the new toolkit and its offerings, the webinar will also take a detailed look at the publication and related learning activities. Additional copies of TASB’s Toolkit for Community Advocacy are also available in the TASB store.
