TEA Educator Preparation Programs Evaluation

Typing on laptop computer

To assess educator preparation program (EPP) effectiveness and provide appropriate support, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is collecting data via the annual principal and first-year teacher surveys.

First-year teachers and their principals are required by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) to complete a survey about the preparation of those teachers. The principal surveys are accessed via the Educator Certification Online System (ECOS). Principals will complete a survey for each first-year teacher on their campus who has completed or is enrolled in an EPP and who taught for at least five months of the school year. Teacher surveys will be sent as a link via email. Early career teachers should update their email addresses in ECOS prior to March 22, 2024.

Key dates include:

  • March 18, 2024: HR personnel access ECOS to verify principal roster
  • April 1, 2024: Teachers receive survey link via email and survey opens for principals in ECOS
  • June 15, 2024: Final date for principal and teacher survey submission

Principals and teachers will earn CPE credits upon completion of the evaluation. More information can be found on the TEA website.
