(Austin) — Kathy Major of Liberty Hill ISD has been elected to a three-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 13, Position C. The election was held during the Association’s 2021 Delegate Assembly on September 25 in Dallas.

A retired educator, Major was elected to the Liberty Hill ISD Board in 2018. She is vice-president of the board. She has served on the district’s Strategic Planning Committee and Long-Range Planning Committee. She also is active with the Liberty Hill Educational Foundation, having served on the steering committee and currently serving as board liaison.

Major’s education career spanned 37 years, with 34 years spent in Region 13. She retired in 2017, after serving 17 years as principal at Liberty Hill Intermediate School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in child development and teaching from Michigan State University and a master’s in educational leadership and administration from The University of Texas at Austin.

Even in her retirement, she continues to serve students as a reading mentor. She also volunteers at the Liberty Hill Library, Operation Liberty Hill Foodbank, and Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
