Accurate records management for school employment records will help the school district in countless ways, including proper employee compensation, effective human resources practices, and compliance with open records requirements.  The following resources relate to the retention of school personnel records.

  • TASB Legal Services' article FACTA and School Districts discusses school district's obligation to protect and safely dispose of certain employee credit reports.
  • The TASB HR Library, available behind myTASB for members of HR Services, collects information and resources on Personnel Records, such as a sample form authorizing release of information; a checklist for the contents of a personnel file; and information on records retention, including electronic records.  In addition, under the heading HR Department, the HR Library includes information on required reports and a sample personnel action request.
