Deputy or Assistant Superintendent—Scope and authority encompasses several or all major functional areas and extends beyond responsibility for a single function. Reports directly to the CEO of the district. The administrator may stand in place of the superintendent in his or her absence. May supervise or oversee assistant superintendents or other executive directors.
Associate Superintendent for Middle Schools—Scope and authority encompasses knowledge of educational trends, effective school concepts, and best practices for middle schools. Provides general guidance and direction for and supervises middle school principals. This position reports to the CEO and/or person directly in charge of academic performance in the organization.
Associate Superintendent for Elementary Schools—Scope and authority encompasses knowledge of educational trends, effective school concepts, and best practices for elementary schools. Provides general guidance and direction for and supervises elementary school principals. This position reports to the CEO and/or person directly in charge of academic performance in the organization.
Business/Finance
Chief Financial Officer—Acts as the district’s top financial executive. Responsible for the district’s overall financial planning and strategy. Scope of authority includes the general oversight of all financial and business affairs of the district. May also have oversight responsibilities for other areas such as transportation or food service. Reports directly to the CEO of the district.
Human Resources
Chief Human Resources Officer—Acts as the district’s top human resources/personnel executive. Responsible for planning, strategy, implementation, and administration of all human resource/personnel activities in the district. Many have responsibility for another minor administrative area. Reports to the CEO of the district.
Instruction/Curriculum
Chief Instruction/Curriculum Officer—Acts as the district’s top instruction and curriculum executive. Evaluates and provides leadership for the overall instructional program of the district. Reports district. Reports to the CEO of the district. Supervises other administrators responsible for portions of the district’s instructional program. May supervise campus principals.
Maintenance & Operations
Chief Operations Officer—Acts as the district’s top operations executive. Responsible for the strategic planning, direction, and budget of facility maintenance and development program. Scope of authority includes the oversight of all plant maintenance, and operations. May also have oversight responsibilities for other areas such as transportation or food service. Reports to the CEO of the district.
Campus Staff
Principal—Serves as chief campus administrator.
Professional Support
Director of Campus Programs—Scope encompasses the skills of effective staff administration, specifically oral and written communication, the ability to work with and facilitate a variety of groups from the district and community, and organize data and plans related to improving student achievement. A working knowledge of strategic planning, curriculum and instruction, and group facilitation focused on redesigning systems to improve student performance is critical to this function. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Office of Redesign or the person directly in charge of strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, or curriculum and instruction for the organization.
Director of Diversity and Intercultural Relations—Scope encompasses knowledge of school and district policies and laws related to Equal Employment Opportunity, intercultural relations, and multicultural education. Related skills include managing and supervising a subordinate staff and using effective meeting coordination and facilitation for a variety of diverse projects and district and community groups representing different cultural and ethnic issues. The focus of this position is to ensure all children in the district benefit from a sustained emphasis on the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in future schooling and become productive members in a diverse society. This position reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer or person directly in charge of academic performance in the organization.
