Grassroots Activities

Plan to attend grassroots meetings beginning in January. In the interim, tell TASB what "hot topic" issues are affecting local districts. Members are urged to help identify legislative priorities for next session by completing the online survey recently e-mailed from TASB.

 

Winter Training

Registration is open for the Winter Governance and Legal Seminar in Corpus Christi February 11-13. Affordable and timely training will be offered for new and experience board members. A small district strand also will focus on issues facing districts with 1,000 or lower ADA.

Innovation Awards

Applications are being accepted for the annual TASB Risk Management Fund Innovation Awards. Up to 10 winners will receive a $1,000 award to apply to their risk management efforts. Members of any of the Fund programs are eligible to apply; entry deadline is January 22, 2010.

Online Learning Center

TASB policy and legal staff share timely information on emerging education issues in free podcasts from the Online Learning Center. New courses covering superintendent evaluation, performance goals, and evaluation instruments have been added. All paid courses offer continuing education credit. Sign up now and receive updates about more new courses as they become available.

Lago Vista ISD Names Lone Finalist

On November 16, the Lago Vista ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Matthews Underwood as lone finalist for the position of superintendent/CEO. He has served public education for 15 years. Underwood began his career in 1994 as teacher/coach at Boerne ISD. During his time at Boerne, he became assistant principal, a position he also held at Lampasas ISD. He served as high school principal at Mason ISD and middle school principal at Llano ISD. In 2003, he returned to Mason to take the position of superintendent/CEO. The board is scheduled to vote to hire in December.
