Governance Camp, Powered by Student Voice – 2024

Join us for Governance Camp, a unique learning experience, where Texas school board members receive top-notch training focused on governance, leadership, and student voice. Camp's keynotes and sessions provide trustees with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and serve their communities.

Make new friends from across the state. Mix and mingle with session presenters and TASB Staff. Hear directly from students about their educational experiences.

Attendees registered before Wednesday, February 7 will receive the $485 per person early rate. Those registering after will receive an increased registration rate of $535 per person.

Governance Camp believes that student voice matters and has infused student participation in this unique conference by highlighting the incredible students in our state. We believe that we cannot create the leaders of tomorrow without letting them lead today.

On Friday, March 1, 2024, breakout sessions will focus on Texas public school students' real-life experiences impacting student achievement and student outcomes. These Student Voice sessions should be presented or co-presented by students about initiatives and programs driven by students or developed by students. The session time is one full hour of content. 

More details about presenting a Student Voice Session can be found on the application itself. Any student under 18 must also complete a parental permission form

Submissions for sessions and demonstrations are now open.

Student Voice Panel and Scholarship Award

A highlight of Governance Camp is the High School Senior Scholarship and panel. Five students will be selected to join us in Galveston and share their unique public-school journey in Texas. Selected students must commit to attend and participate on the panel at the 2024 Governance Camp, Feb. 28-March 2, 2024, to receive the scholarship. 

The scholarship application is now closed. Thank you to all who applied. 

Recipients will receive $1,500 in scholarship monies from our sponsor, Walsh Gallegos.

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Student Attendees

Registration Information

The Galveston Island Convention Center is small enough to keep the feel of being connected that this conference is known for, while offering a relaxed environment for learning and networking. Main events (general sessions, education sessions, student demonstrations, and meals) will take place at the Galveston Island Convention Center. 

The registration fee includes three breakfasts, two lunches, refreshment breaks, receptions, and materials from Wednesday- Saturday.

Galveston Island Convention Center

The conference is being held at the Galveston Island Convention Center located at 5600 Seawall Blvd. Galveston, TX 77551. 

Housing Information

All reservation requests must be made through Convention Housing Management (CHM) and their housing website. CHM is the official Camp housing coordinator. Housing for Camp will only be available to registered attendees.

In order to receive the CHM housing link, you must first register for Camp.
