Regional Superintendents of the Year announced

Congratulations to the regional Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) award winners! Regional winners will be interviewed by the state committee, which will then select five finalists. The 2021 Superintendent of the Year will be announced at the TASA | TASB Convention in September. Since 1984, the SOTY award has recognized excellence in educational leadership. Register your board’s delegate now!

TASB’s advocacy work on behalf of public schools is determined by our Advocacy Agenda, which is approved at Delegate Assembly, the Association’s annual business meeting. This year, the meeting will take place September 25 during the TASA | TASB Convention in Dallas. Your school board may appoint one delegate and one alternate to serve as your representatives at Delegate Assembly. Registration is open now.

txEDCON21 registration opens soon

Housing and registration for txEDCON21, the TASA | TASB Convention, open July 22. The annual event will take place September 24-26 in Dallas. Don’t miss out on inspiring speakers, networking, one-of-a-kind exhibits, and the opportunity to earn continuing education credit. Learn more about txEDCON21.

Is it time to renew your DOI plan?

Since 2015, more than half of Texas school districts have become districts of innovation (DOI). This exempts them from requirements in state law such as teacher certification and the instructional calendar to operate more like an open-enrollment charter school. If your district adopted an innovation plan when the law first went into effect, now’s the time to renew.

Superintendent salary survey opens July 20

The first phase of the 2021-22 Salary Surveys begins July 20 with the superintendent survey. Superintendents, look for an email invitation in your inbox next week — other HR Services contacts will receive reminders in August if needed. The deadline to complete the survey is August 17. Participation in this comprehensive survey ensures you have access to the data you need to hire and retain the best talent. Have questions? See the salary survey FAQ (pdf) or contact TASB HR Services at

Mark your calendar for district-level admin training

The TASB Conference for Administrative Professionals returns this fall to an in-person event at TASB headquarters in Austin. Be sure to save the date for October 21-22. As is customary, the event will repeat February 10-11, 2022, for those who can’t make it in October. Watch for more details on the event page and in communications from TASB next month!
