Texas students are overcomers, learners, and achievers. Participate in TASB’s Student Video Contest and demonstrate how your school has learned and grown in the face of adversity this year. In each category (elementary, middle/junior, and high school), a first prize of $5,000 and a second prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the winning schools to be used in their classrooms. Read more.

Superintendent salaries up over last year

Highlights from the annual TASB/TASA Superintendent Salary Survey have been released, with 672 districts participating (66% of total districts). The median superintendent salary is $137,314, which is 4% higher than the median last year. Read more.

Expanded TASB Member Center launches  

The Member Center, TASB’s valuable online resource for school trustees, just got a fresh coat of paint and has opened its doors to welcome additional TASB members, including superintendents and other district staff, this week. Read more.

Mark your calendars for the Legislative Conference

TASB and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) are hosting the Legislative Conference virtually on February 23, 2021. The conference is free for school board members and superintendents; however, preregistration is required. Attendees will hear insights on the legislative session from Capitol insiders. Celebrating trustees who navigate students to success

January is School Board Recognition Month, and TASB invites districts to honor the dedicated work of their trustees. Our online resource kit is filled with ideas and sample materials—including a news release, artwork, and certificates—to help with honoring board members and letting the community know of their many contributions. The 2021 recognition month is centered on the theme of "Navigating to Success."

New legal resources: Trustee responsibilities, records management

BuyBoard® rebates more than $10 million to members

The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative Board returned approximately $10.5 million in the form of rebates to 1,091 members of the BuyBoard online purchasing system in 2019–20. This is the largest ever rebate amount distributed and largest number of rebate recipients. BuyBoard offers direct rebates based on purchasing volume during the year to public schools, municipalities, counties, and local agencies.

Podcast series focuses on eXceptional Governance

A TASB Talks podcast miniseries features interviews with researchers and education experts on how school boards can positively affect student achievement. Four speakers from the recent XG Summit covered topics ranging from board self-assessment to the practices of effective school boards. Each episode is 10 minutes or less. Gonzalez named nominee for National Superintendent of the Year

Jose Gonzalez, McAllen ISD superintendent, has been selected by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) as the Texas nominee for 2021 National Superintendent of the Year. Gonzalez was named TASB’s 2020 Superintendent of the Year during the TASA | TASB Convention. Read more.
