TASB School Law eSource is a compilation of TASB Legal Services’ online school law resources, organized by topic.These free resources, available on the TASB website, cover the questions most frequently asked of TASB Legal Services. Resources include FAQ’s, articles, samples, and other resources on timely legal topics of interest to school officials and school attorneys.

TASB School Law Update Newsletter
This newsletter, written and published monthly by TASB Legal Services attorneys, offers you currently legal information on education-related issues, in an easy-to-read summary format:
- Recent decisions from federal and state courts
- New rules and regulations from state and federal agencies
- Significant decisions from the commissioner of education
The newsletter will be published exclusively in an online format beginning with the January 2010 edition. The online format offers a number of advantages:
- Faster, more convenient delivery to your e-mail inbox
- An attractive “front page” display that lets you scan the news at a glance
- The same timely summaries you expect, plus quick e-mail updates on school law news
- Direct links, when available, to the full text of reported legal decisions
- Easy, one-click access to additional information, such as:

o Electronic archives of past editions of the newsletter
o Legal Research Library
The subscription year for the newsletter runs from July to June. The cost is: $110
TASB School Law Update Newsletter Plus
Newsletter subscribers may also select the newsletter “plus” option, which provides subscribers online access to full-text final commissioner decisions as they are released by TEA.
The subscription year for this additional service also runs from July to June. The cost is: $250
Please note that all of the content made available with the newsletter “plus” option is made available (along with more complete, searchable archives) in the Legal Research Library (LRL). A member subscribing to the LRL need not also subscribe to the newsletter “plus” option.
Legal Research Library
The Legal Research Library (LRL) (formerly called the Legal Resources Library) is an online, searchable archive of valuable school law resources, many of which are not available anywhere else. Designed for board members, administrators, and school lawyers, the Library includes:
- A complete collection of TASB School Law Update newsletters, dating back to 1988
- Full-text decisions from the commissioner of education, dating back to 2004
- Summaries of all past commissioner decisions, dating back to 1989
- Friend-of-the-court briefs filed by the TASB Legal Assistance Fund
All of these resources are fully searchable and conveniently organized under myTASB.
Additional resources are available in the LRL for members of the Texas Council of School Attorneys, including the valuable model amendments to the AIA construction contracts developed by CSA’s construction committee and summaries of education-related bills passed by the Texas Legislature.
Having access to the LRL greatly expands the usefulness of your TASB School Law Update subscription. Now you will be able to read about a new commissioner’s decision summarized in the newsletter, click on a link, and instantly read the full text of the decision. If the issue addressed in that decision resurfaces months or years later, a quick search in the online Library will immediately place the newsletter summary and full-text decision at your fingertips.
