What

Governance Camp is an educational conference primarily focused on student voice, leadership, and governance.

The purpose of “Camp” is that trustees grow as a leader, leaving refreshed and ready to head home with new ideas and tools while looking forward to returning next year to see the familiar faces of trustees they met.

The Galveston convention center is comfortable and easy to navigate, the intimate class sizes allow trustees from similar school districts to network, and there is ample social time built into the schedule.

TASB believes that student voice matters, and has infused student participation into this unique conference by highlighting the incredible students across our state. Trustees not only attend sessions side-by-side with students but participate in student-led breakouts, and interactive demonstrations led by students.

The conversations that take place between students and trustees have had an incredible impact on our members and help guide their work as trustees.

“I attended Winter Governance for the first time in 2019. I truly enjoyed the smaller conference setting, which provided plenty of time for networking with other trustees. I loved the articulate, passionate student voices as both the exhibitors and presenters. I learned so much about school climate and student issues from their perspectives. Changing Winter Governance to Governance Camp is so appropriate. The smaller, more intimate conference is energizing, engaging, and exciting.” –Barbara Burns, Trustee, Denton ISD
