The U.S. Department of Education has approved the following teacher shortage areas for 2018‒2019 as submitted by the Texas Education Agency:

  1. Bilingual/English as a Second Language: Elementary and Secondary Levels
  2. Special Education: Elementary and Secondary
  3. Career and Technical Education: Secondary Levels (including Technology Application and Computer Science)
  4. Mathematics: Secondary Levels

The shortage areas for the upcoming school year were reformatted but reflect the same areas as last year.

Administrators can recruit and retain teachers in these shortage areas by encouraging them to use the loan forgiveness programs available to them. We've written about the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program in a recent HRX post, so feel free to check it out or visit the Department of Education website for more information.
