When will registration open for Summer Leadership Institute?
Online registration for both locations will be available beginning Tuesday, April 18 at 9 a.m. CST
You will receive the link to book housing for attendees from within the registration confirmation email. Register your attendees for the conference first, and then find the housing link within the confirmation.

Registrants adding the Saturday Post-Legislative Conference will incur an additional $175 fee.

What is the cancellation policy for registration?
If you sign up but are unable to attend SLI, per the TASB Terms and Conditions, the following terms will apply:
All registrations must be prepaid by check or credit card or include a school district purchase order. If you sign up but are unable to attend, the following terms will apply:
A registrant may cancel the registration and receive a refund, less a cancellation fee, if the notification of cancellation reaches the TASB 14 days before the event. The cancellation fee is $25 for a registration fee of less than $300 and $50 for any registration fee of $300 or more.
After 14 days before the event, no refunds will be provided, but substitutions will be permitted for eligible persons.
No-shows will not be refunded.
Registrants or their designee may edit, cancel, or make name substitutions through the registration system, accessible online through the event registration webpage.
If TASB must cancel the event, TASB will refund registrations in full, but will not be responsible for any indirect, special, or consequential damages (including transportation, lodging, and meal costs) sustained by the registrant.
How do I cancel a conference registration?
The registration coordinator may edit, cancel, or make name substitutions through the registration system, accessible on the event registration page. When canceling the registration, please select the cancellation reason that is most appropriate.

What are the registration options?
SLI General Attendee
This option is for attendees not attending the in-depth sessions designed specifically for newly elected trustees or board officers. Wednesday’s EISO session and Saturday’s Post-Legislative Conference are available for preregistration.
SLI Texas Trustee Institute Attendee
This option is recommended for newly elected trustees. This registration includes a two-part session beginning on Wednesday evening with part 1. Part 2 of the session will be a full day following the first general session on Thursday. Friday will be a “free” day for attendees to choose their own sessions. Saturday will include an EISO training session designed with newly elected trustees in mind.
SLI Board Officer Institute Attendee
This option is recommended for board officers or those aspiring to be a board officer. This registration includes an in-depth session following the first general session on Thursday. Friday will be a “free” day for attendees to choose their own sessions. Wednesday’s EISO session and Saturday’s Post-Legislative Conference are available for preregistration.
TASB Board of Directors/Committee Member
This option is strictly limited to current board members serving on the TASB Board of Directors.
I’ve already submitted my registration. What if I need to make a change?
You can now make edits to existing registration orders online. During preregistration periods, registration orders can be viewed, edited, or canceled. This is done through the blue register button and selecting View My Registrations on the top right of the page. You can also make edits directly from the registration confirmation email.
Who do I contact regarding accessibility needs?
I’ve registered for one location, but now need to attend the other. How can I transfer my registration?
The best practice is to cancel the original registration first and select "Attending SLI - xxxxx instead". This is done through the blue register button and selecting View My Registrations on the top right of the page. You can also make edits directly from the registration confirmation email. TASB Registrars will monitor the changes and adjust fees accordingly.
Once you’ve canceled the original registration, you are free to register for the other location at any time.
Will my full board have reserved seating for lunches?
If all 7 board members and the superintendent are joining us for lunch, we will reserve a table with 8 chairs for both Thursday and Friday lunches. We cannot hold a table unless all 8 individuals are present for the meal. If there’s any question about whether your district will have a reserved table, please visit the registration help desk at the event.
What if I want to register a new board member before elections?
If you are having contested elections this May, we recommend that you register your current sitting board members. Should they be unseated, add the new board member to your district's Member Profile through the TASB Member Center and then edit your order to switch out the registrants.

Will I need to pick my sessions for Summer Leadership Institute?
It is not necessary to preregister for breakout sessions at SLI. The Wednesday night preconference session and Saturday postconference session are now the only sessions you'll need to preselect for your attendees.
Where will SLI be held?
SLI in San Antonio will be held at the Marriott Rivercenter.
SLI in Fort Worth wil be held at Omni Fort Worth Hotel.
Will there be a shuttle this year?
San Antonio
Shuttle service will ONLY be available to those staying at the Emily Morgan. All other hotels are within walking distance of HQ event hotel.

- 6:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m.

Fort Worth
There will be no shuttles in Fort Worth. All hotels are within walking distance of HQ event hotel. Fort Worth has Molly the Trolley that stops near the Omni Fort Worth.
Molly the Trolley offers free public trolly service to explore downtown Fort Worth.
The trolley runs about every 15 minutes and stops in front of the Omni by the Starbucks entrance.

Conference sessions
Will TASB offer any of the required training for school board members at Summer Leadership Institute?
General Registration Attendees will have the option to attend the required Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO/SB 1566) on Wednesday night at no additional charge.They may also choose to attend the required Post Legislative Seminar on Saturday morning for an additional $175.
Texas Trustee Institute (for new board members) attendees will have the required Open Meetings Act training during their session on Thursday and be able to attend the required Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO/SB 1566) on Saturday morning for no addtional charge. They will also receive a code for Child Abuse Prevention in our Online Learning Center.

Credit reporting
How do I report credits?
The credits earned at SLI are to be self-reported through the TASB Member Center.
- Before the event, test your TASB account login to easily report continuing education credit (CEC)
- To report credit, you must know your TASB login. (New this year: use your email to log in.)
- If you’ve forgotten your password or have never reported credit, email TASB before arrival.
- CEC numbers will be given at the end of each session by the presenter.
- A QR code will be in your printed program as well as on the CEC number slide after each session to take you to the TASB member center
- The deadline to self-report cec is 24 hours after the event concludes. If this deadline is missed you must email cec@tasb.org to have the credits entered for you. The district administrative professional cannot enter this credit.

How do I get on the waitlist for a hotel rooms?
Please don’t panic. Although TASB blocks plenty of rooms for this conference, high demand means we can’t always meet everyone’s needs right away. When a district reserves more rooms than they require it is then necessary for others to be put on a waitlist until they release those extra rooms.
To satisfy as many attendees as possible, we offer a hotel waiting list. This helps us fill dates that become available as reservations are canceled or changed.

I'm registered. How do I book my hotel?
After you have registered, you will receive a confirmation with a link to secure housing. You must register for SLI before you can book your hotel.
TASB reserved the best selection of hotels at the best available rates in both San Antonio and Fort Worth.
Convention Housing Management (CHM) is the official SLI housing coordinator for 2023.

I don't know who from my district is attending yet, but I want to book hotels to make sure all my people get in. Is there a way to do that?
TASB highly recommends that you confirm as many of your attendees as possible prior to submitting your conference registration(s) and booking hotel rooms to avoid cancellation fees.
When you reserve more rooms than you require, others may need to be put on a waitlist until you release your extra rooms. This is why TASB enforces the Deposit Deadline.

How does SLI Housing & Travel process room requests?
When you complete your SLI hotel request, you immediately receive an email acknowledging receipt of your request from sli@chmrooms.com. Be sure to keep your reservation acknowledgment as it contains important information, including your check-in and check-out dates, the cancelation penalty deadlines, and deposit information.
In early June, we send our reservation list to the hotels. When the hotel receives and processes your reservation, you receive a confirmation e-mail from CHM <sli@chmrooms.com> that contains your hotel confirmation number.
I called the hotel and they don't have my reservation. Should I panic?
Please do not panic. SLI Housing begins accepting reservations in April, but we do not send our reservations to the hotels until much closer to the event.
This allows Convention Housing Management (CHM) and TASB to manage the reservations, replace canceled rooms with people on the waitlist and ensure the list that is sent to the hotel is the most accurate.
All changes and cancellations should come through CHM until Friday, May 16for San Antonio and Fort Worth.

Can I make changes to my SLI Housing reservation directly with the hotel?
No. We send reservations to the hotel early June. If you call the hotel before then, they won’t have your reservation on file. Additionally, hotel staff is instructed to send you back to TASB to make your changes.

Hotel payment
I want to guarantee the hotel reservations by check not a credit card, what do I do?
To receive the best housing rate, register by Tuesday, May 23 for San Antonio and May 30 for Fort Worth.
You must guarantee your hotel reservation by credit card. If you would you like to pay by check, you must send a check to your hotel directly (along with a copy of your hotel confirmation number) at least 14 days prior to your arrival date. All checks must be made payable to your hotel. Checks will not be accepted upon arrival.
Where can I find a tax exempt form?
School District Trustees will need to supply the hotel with a tax exempt form upon arrival at the front desk.

What are my hotel payment options at check in?
If you would you like to pay by check, you must send a check to your hotel directly (along with a copy of your hotel confirmation number) at least 14 days prior to your arrival date. All checks must be made payable to your hotel. Checks will not be accepted upon arrival.
Can I use frequent traveler or rewards points to pay for my hotel reservation?
Unfortunately, no. Hotels don’t allow you to book reservations with rewards points during very busy time periods and special events. However, you can usually accrue points for your stay if you belong to your hotel’s frequent guest program.
Step 6 of 6 in the online reservations system allows you to enter the rooming list. You can include your membership number in the Hotel Frequent Guest # field when submitting your online hotel request. See what the housing web site looks like here.
I already booked a hotel room directly with a hotel but the rate is really high. How do I get the SLI group rate applied to my room?
Convention Housing Management (CHM) and the hotel are unable to change the room rate for reservations booked directly with the hotel. TASB contracted a large number of rooms at our low conference rate and only rooms already in our block and booked through the CHM housing website can receive the SLI rate.
Speak with the hotel to learn about their cancellation policy for the reservation you have made outside the block. If you find the policy favorable, book a second hotel reservation with CHM and once you have your acknowledgment number, cancel your original reservation.
