(Austin)—The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative Board returned approximately $9.1 million in the form of rebates to more than 970 members of the BuyBoard online purchasing system in 2018-19. Since 2006, over $58.8 million has been rebated to eligible members, which include public schools, municipalities, counties, local government agencies, and more.

“The volume and purchasing power of BuyBoard creates economies of scale that no one public school, municipality, county, and other local government agency could achieve on its own,” said Marta Alvarez, chair of the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative Board of Trustees.

“Leveraging that purchasing power on a wide range of contracts delivers competitive prices and reduces administrative cost. It allows members to be efficient and effective in their procurement processes and as a result, provides the best value to the taxpayer,” said Alvarez, who also serves as director of purchasing and contract management, City of Lubbock.

BuyBoard's total purchase volume is in excess of $1.2 billion, and its membership includes more than 5,300 governmental and nonprofit entities in Texas. The Cooperative is endorsed by the Texas Association of Counties, Texas Municipal League, Texas Association of School Administrators, and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). The Cooperative is also a Strategic Partner with the Texas Association of School Business Officials.

“We are extremely proud of our long history of putting money back into members’ pockets in the form of rebates. It’s just one of the many ways we support and serve our members,” said Brian Bolinger, associate executive director of Business Services, TASB.

“The continued growth in the Cooperative in both purchase volume and membership is a testament to the value and benefit that members receive by using BuyBoard,” said Bolinger.
