Four ways to get involved in WGLSFour ways to get involved in WGLS

District leaders and students are invited to share their expertise and insights at the 2018 Winter Governance and Legal Seminar (WGLS). The annual training event is set for March 1–3, 2018, in Galveston. Here are four opportunities for you and your district's students to be part of WGLS:

  1. Breakout sessions—Do you have a story to share about student achievement, innovative ideas that produced positive results, or best board practices? Apply to present a breakout session by December 15.
  2. Student-led sessions—Students can share initiatives and programs they have developed in a special series of breakout sessions. Applications are due December 15.
  3. Student Voices panel—A highlight of the conference, the high-school-senior panel will be a part of WGLS again this year. Each selected student will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a travel stipend. Currently enrolled high school seniors are invited to submit an application. Deadline to apply is January 17.
  4. Student entertainment—Do you know of a creative group in your district that could perform? WGLS is looking for student performances for Wednesday, February 28, and Thursday, March 1. Slam poets, flash mob dancers, or other artists are all encouraged to participate. If your district would like one of its groups to be considered, e-mail Kathy Dundee, TASB Leadership Team Services.

WGLS provides more than 14 hours of focused training for both new and experienced board members. Housing opens January 9, and registration begins January 24. Watch the event page for more details on this year’s conference.
