Remember: Training announcement required

As the end of the year approaches, it's time to check in on continuing education credit (CEC) compliance. The State Board of Education's current rule on board member continuing education requires the local board president to make the announcement about compliance with training requirements at the last meeting of the calendar year. For most districts, that will be the December meeting. Read more.

Legal tips for the holidays

The holidays will soon be upon us, and you may be asking: Can our campuses decorate with holiday themes? Can classrooms have holiday parties? Can the district award holiday bonuses for staff? TASB Legal Services has compiled the details you need to know about these issues and more in a document entitled "Employee and Student Legal Issues Related to the Holiday Season."

Getting ready for superintendent evaluations

For many local school boards, their to-do lists in the next two months will include "annual superintendent evaluation," which means now is the time to start preparing. TASB Leadership Team Services has a web page of resources, including the Student Performance Domain Worksheet, to help trustees through this important task.

Updates in the School Law eSource

Three new legal documents are now available: "Technology in the Classroom" and the "Sample Pre-Employment Affidavit for Applicants" and "Sample Pre-Employment Affidavit for Applicant Offered Employment," which meet the requirements of Senate Bill 7. In addition, several memos were recently updated: "New Trustee Checklist," "Districts of Innovation FAQ," "Firearms on School District Property," "School Marshals and Other School District Personnel Carrying Firearms," and "Frequently Asked Questions about Required Pre-Employment Affidavits."
