Localized Policy Manuals for Community Colleges

Policy Service membership is good, but it is only when the college district's board policy manual has been localized that a college district can enjoy the full range of benefits, including:

  • Numbered updates, major policy updates issued one time per year to reflect the ever-changing statutory contexts for higher education law and practice. Localization makes it possible for TASB to customize each set of update recommendations to the needs of the individual college district.
  • Local district updates or "LDUs," smaller updates of one to several (LOCAL) policies initiated by the college district that benefit from collaboration with the college district's policy consultant prior to the changes being taken to the board for approval.
  • Policy On Line, an optional service for publishing the board's policies on the Internet.

The process of localization includes collaboration between the college president or chancellor, the college district's policy consultant at TASB, and the board of trustees.  Localization results in a suite of board policies designed to meet statutory demands and the college district's unique local issues while also entering that data into Policy Service's computer system, which facilitates Policy On Line and our proactive updating services.
