About Legal and Policy Services
for Community Colleges
TASB Legal and Policy Services for Community Colleges is a collaboration between Legal Services and Policy Service to provide legal information, policy development and maintenance, and training for community college officials.
Legal Services provides a number of services to keep Texas college district board members, administrators, and attorneys up to date on legal developments that affect Texas community colleges.
Legal Services has dedicated an attorney to provide legal information to community colleges. Decision makers at TASB member college districts may access the attorney through TASB Legal Services' telephone consultation service, the TASB Legal Line (800-580-5345) at no additional charge to the college district. In addition to providing targeted training and other resources, the attorney assists Policy Service in the development of policies and supporting materials.
College district board policy is the means by which a college district establishes its vision and goals and is vital to the mission of educating students. Policy Service provides broad array of services and resources to help Texas college districts develop and maintain their policy manuals. These services include consultation; training for trustees, college presidents, and senior administrators; and ongoing policy maintenance services.
TASB Policy Service updates and maintains the Community College Policy Reference Manual, a compilation of relevant federal and state legal authority. To access the manual, a community college must be a member of TASB and TASB Policy Service. Members may choose to work with TASB Policy Service to customize or localize the board policy manual.
