Student panel and scholarship

A highlight of the conference, the high-school-senior panel will be a part of Winter Governance Seminar (WGS) again this year. Selected students will receive scholarship monies and a travel stipend for their participation. Currently enrolled high school seniors are invited to submit an application to receive a scholarship and be a member of the panel. Selected students must commit to participating on the panel to receive the scholarship.

The application deadline is 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Download and complete the Scholarship and Panel application

Four students will be selected and will each receive a $1,000.00 scholarship from our generous event sponsor, Walsh Gallegos

Student Voice sessions

Student voices logoWe are pleased to expand the presence of Student Voices at the 2019 WG conference. We are seeking sessions for Friday, February 22, presented or copresented by students. Each session is one hour in length. Students can share things like:

  • Student-led initiatives that have transformed their school;
  • Projects that have had an impact on school culture and climate;
  • Technology development and findings;
  • And more!

If you have an idea not listed, make a request. Submissions are due by Friday, December 7.
Depending on travel distance, hotel cost may be picked up by TASB. Students are welcome to join attendees for breakfast and lunch on Friday.

Review the Education Guidelines and complete the Student Voice Session application. For more information about Student Voice Sessions, read our Student Voice Sessions Frequently Asked Questions (pdf).

Acceptance of the application does not guarantee selection. Notification of acceptance will be sent by e-mail in January 2019.

Students inspired

NEW! For the 2019 conference there is a new Student Voice opportunity to lead a hands-on interactive experience or demonstration in an exhibition-style setting, and we are calling it, Students Inspired.

TASB is looking for individual students or groups to champion programs or projects from their district that would be of value to showcase to school board members across the state. Some suggestions include:

  • Student-designed video games or apps
  • Health studies
  • Crafts like carpentry and welding

Be creative and come up with your own demonstration to share.

To participate, download and complete the Students Inspired application

Submissions are due Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Depending on travel distance, hotel cost may be picked up by TASB. Students and their chaperones are considered registered attendees at the event. Breakfast and lunch is included with registration. Students are also permitted and encouraged to attend sessions on Friday.

Call for student entertainment

Student entertainmentCome play for us! WG is seeking a mid-sized student performing group for Wednesday, February 20, and Thursday, February 21. Groups will be chosen based on size, space/AV needs, variety of performance type, etc. TASB will provide snacks and small honoraria to the district for the performances.

If your district would like one of its groups to be considered, e-mail Kathy Dundee.
