2016 Summer Leadership Institute is here!
School board members will gather in San Antonio as the 2016 Summer Leadership Institute kicks off. This year’s conference runs June 16–18 in San Antonio and June 30–July 2 in Fort Worth. Here are top 5 things you need to know about SLI—even if you aren’t able to join us.
1. SLI is going live!
New this year, four popular sessions in San Antonio will be broadcast via a live web feed. SLIlive will be available on the TASB Facebook page, so you can watch it from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop—as long as you have an Internet connection and can access Facebook. School board members and district staff are welcome to watch these sessions for free; however, no continuing education credit will be awarded.
The scheduled webcasts are:
June 16, 9:45–11 a.m., Out with Old and In with the New: NCLB and ESSA
June 16, 11:15 a.m.–12:30 p.m., T-TESS and T-PESS: What Board Members Need to Know
June 16, 3:15–4:30 p.m., School Safety, Discipline, and Firearms
June 17, 1:45–3 p.m., The Top 5 Policies All Board Members Should Know About
2. Keep connected at SLI.
Wi-Fi—or SLI-fi, as we call it—will be available throughout the meeting space at both SLI locations. And you can follow @tasbsli and #tasbsli16 on Twitter to keep up-to-date on trending news from the conference. Need a twitter tutorial? Stop by the registration desk at 5 PM on Wednesday for a crash course to get you tweeting.
3. Beat the heat in San Antonio!
Jump on an official SLI shuttle to/from San Antonio overflow hotels to the Marriott Rivercenter on Thursday through Saturday.
Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17
6:30 AM - 9:30 AM
3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Saturday, June 18
4. Submit your CEC hours from your phone.
Add the CEC Mobile link, cecm.tasb.org, to your bookmarks on your smartphone or tablet, so you can report your continuing education credit hours electronically during SLI. The web-based application can be used with any mobile device—all you need is Internet access and your myTASB user ID and password.
5. Join the food fight!
Gang up with fellow SLI participants to fight our state’s hunger problem and bring along a gift of peanut butter and jelly. Nearly one out of every four children and one out of every five adults in Texas lives in poverty and has difficulty meeting basic nutritional needs. You can help knock out the challenge of poverty with this simple gift. Look for the collection bins near the registration desk.
