TASB Advocacy Agenda Call for Resolutions
The Association annually calls upon districts to submit new Advocacy Resolutions that will help form TASB’s responses to issues before the Legislature and other governmental entities during the legislative session.
The Advocacy Agenda—the plan of action TASB pursues during the legislative biennium—consists of two parts:
- Advocacy Priorities—a set of legislative goals arising from TASB’s grassroots process.
- Advocacy Resolutions—district-submitted stances guiding TASB’s response to other issues that might arise before the Legislature and other governmental entities.
The TASB Delegate Assembly adopts the Advocacy Agenda each fall. Resolutions require approval by a simple majority of the Delegate Assembly.
The call for resolutions will run from April 1, 2017 until July 3, 2017.
Proposed resolutions are first reviewed by the TASB Resolutions Committee and thereafter by the TASB Board. As a result of this review, proposed resolutions submitted before the deadline (or granted emergency status if submitted after the deadline) are presented to the Delegate Assembly for consideration at the TASB Convention. Emergency status is granted on the basis of events preventing districts from submitting resolutions in a timely manner, not according to the importance of the issue.
In contemplating resolutions, local boards should review the current TASB Advocacy Agenda and the current resolutions for examples. The current Advocacy Agenda will expire upon adoption of the new agenda during the 2016 Delegate Assembly.
Each resolution proposed by a board should be submitted using this standard form (doc). For more infomation, please contact Dax Gonzalez in TASB Governmental Relations at 800-580-4885.
